Adaptive Skills Training

Adaptive Skills Training (AST) is a service geared towards helping pre-adolescents, adolescents and adults gain independence in their daily living skills. These include self-help skills, such as preparing breakfast/lunch/dinner, preparing a snack, doing laundry, folding clothes, taking out the trash, etc. A goal of AST is for our clients to also be independent in the community by being able to ride public transportation, having and balancing a check account, paying for groceries, etc. AST is beneficial in that it provides opportunities for the client to learn every day, functional skills as they gain independence. Typically children who are ready for AST have had intensive ABA services and the behaviors of concern have reduced significantly.
